Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP)
At Equulibrium®, we offer Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) as an integral part of our interventions. EAP is form of psychotherapy that utilizes an experiential model including horses in the session led by a licensed mental health professional and a team of experts. As is all psychotherapy models, it is ethical responsibility of the therapist to be properly trained in there modalities and to have the adequate horse training in order to include horses.
Equine sessions are primarily non-mounted but mounted activities are also included. Equine activities are specifically designed to achieve treatment goals. We incorporate movement, art, sound and discussion in our sessions. The purpose if the activities is to provide an experiential intervention with immediate feedback in order to help the patient embody their experience and therefore reinforce shifts in in perception, attitude and behavior.
