Family Therapy (Equine Assisted Family Therapy)
When working with a family and incorporating the horses, we base our interventions on a system’s approach. The family is seen as a “complex system” and the issues are brought to the therapy session with the purpose of helping the family members become aware of their dynamics and help them improve their relationships.
Equine Assisted Family Therapy (EAFT) is facilitated by a licensed mental health professional who applies client centered clinical model to the EAFT sessions. Marrying EAFT with the systemic and relational ideas of traditional family therapy, the clients have the possibility of processing their experience as "experts" in their own lives. EAFT empowers the family to consider new options.
As is all psychotherapy models, it is the ethical responsibility of the therapist to be properly trained in these modalities and to have the adequate horse training in order to include horses.
